Tips for Tooth Extraction

If you are having your tooth extracted (LINK TO EXTRACTION PAGE), then you are probably preparing yourself for a painful and disorienting procedure. Well, don’t worry, because modern dentistry makes the extraction nearly pain-free.

After the area is numbed your dentist will remove the tooth and aim to stop any bleeding that may occur. A blood clot will form and keep the space of where the tooth was until it heals.

It is important to know what to do after an extraction. Here are some post-extraction tips that you will want to follow.

1. Don’t smoke or rinse your mouth vigorously.
2. Avoid drinking through a straw for 24 hours.
3. Follow the strict diet that your dentist suggests.

Your dentist will supply you with pain medication if needed and will also encourage you to ice the area to bring down swelling. Your dentist may suggest a follow up appointment to make sure that the area heals correctly.
